In response to COVID - 19 Google released funding to help 100 schools in Africa to be deployed with Google Workspace for Education accounts for their staff and learners in order to help education continue from afar.
As part of this project, Opennetworks deployed 32 schools in South Africa in just 7 weeks. This included registering domains for the schools, setting up their admin console and an extensive blended learning training model to help the staff feel confident in the Google Workspace tools
In my role as Training Lead I worked closely with the Curriculum Development lead to create the courses which were run in 38 different sessions to train the staff from these schools.
I planned, scheduled and managed the training schedule for the rollout of the staff training. I worked closely with my team of Freelance Facilitators who are all EdTech leaders in South Africa to deliver these sessions online through Google Meet.
The first part of the training included a blended learning approach where the staff were sent videos to watch before the sessions, and then they were taken through some more advanced features of the tools before joining our Google Certified Educator Bootcamps in order to become Google Certified in these tools.
This project helped to reach many teachers and learners throughout South Africa and truly made a difference in the lives of thousands.
We were able to help schools continue to run from afar and aid learners in learning valuable 21st Century skills with the help of technology.
