At Opennetworks we no longer have internal capacity to deliver all of the training we are booked for across the education and professional sectors. This has led to the need for Freelance Facilitators who are able to deliver these learning journeys for us.
In my role as Learning Experience and Training Lead, I not only design and build the courses that are delivered, I also manage this team of 22 Freelance Facilitators.
All of these Facilitators are EdTech leaders in various schools around South Africa and are only accepted into the programme if they are Level 2 Google Certified Educators with at least 3 years of experience with Google Workspace, or if they are already Google Certified Trainers.
In my role as manger of this team I complete the following tasks:
Application Process
As soon as a potential Facilitator applies I work through their documents and conduct the initial interviews. When I am happy with the candidate I collate all the information for the SLA to be drawn up.
HR Documentation
I record all the relevant documentation required by the HR department in the correct Google Drive folders. I then use this information to draft the SLA which HR sends to each trainer to be signed before they are onboarded.
Facilitator Onboarding
Once all documentation has been signed and returned the facilitator then goes through an onboarding process. In these sessions they are introduced to the company policies, vision and mission statements and how the process will work for booking training going forward.
Facilitate Courses
As a training schedule comes onto my project board I enlist the help of which ever facilitators are available to help. Once I have the Facilitators organised I start to schedule the dates, confirm with the relevant schools, businesses and facilitators. I then communicate to the attendees of the course and ensure that the facilitators attend the training.
Planning for Alternatives
There are sometimes unforeseen circumstances that arise in the lives of my freelance facilitators. This includes family emergencies, internet issues and load shedding to mention a few. In these instances it is my role to ensure that there is a replacement facilitator booked for the session to ensure that the session can still continue.
The video above showcases some of the trainer sessions that formed part of the Grow with Google School Deployment Project.
