The violin started my journey many years ago. It has taught me to listen, to appreciate and analyse. My Bachelor's Degree in Music taught me to work hard and keep going even when you are tired, frustrated and your fingers hurt. While I am not an active violinist in my daily life any longer, music remains an interest and a passion of mine.
The art of carving a violin from scratch takes patience, determination and time, but there is a sense of excitement as the wood begins to take shape and you can see the magical instrument appear. The time I spent studying this craft honed my eye for detail, improved my patience and increased my creativity.
Supporting the conservation of our wildlife is an interest I am passionate about. In my free time I volunteer for the SANParks Honorary Ranger corp.
I could spend all day in a bookstore, and my bookshelf is always increasing in stock. I crave the words on the page and the knowledge they give.
I love exploring a new culture and area, whether in South Africa or around the world, I find value in learning more about the countries, people and traditions of those in the world around us.
Family and friends are the greatest support system that I have in my life. It gives me great pleasure to know that they are there if and when I need them. With them behind me I know that I can accomplish anything.
My two Scottish Terriers give me great joy, and while not strictly an interest as such, definitely add value to my life.
